Macmillan was kind enough to send me not one but two audiobooks, and so I get to have my very first giveaway!
At stake are the audiobooks of:

Gabrielle Zevin’s latest, All These Things I’ve Done, which I adored. Practical, responsible Russian mafiya daughter falls for the son of New York’s top cop… until her family’s past catches up with her and her siblings. Emotionally intense, sure, but also way funnier than it sounds.

Alyson Noel’s latest, Dreamland, which includes far too many descriptions of “his sparkling green eyes and soft wavy hair” for my taste, especially in audiobook form where you can’t skim past those bits. It’s also really hard to follow at first, which makes sense now that I know it’s the third in a trilogy. It’s a middle grade spin-off of her Immortals series. If you click those links and the covers and titles look appealing, you’ll probably like them — Alyson Noel seems to be pretty much as advertised.
If you’re not a YA reader yourself, think of this as two very different gifts for the 12-to-14-year-old girl in your life. She’s bound to like at least one of them. (The Gabrielle Zevin is more 14+; the Alyson Noel is 11-14-ish.)
To enter, just comment below. Add a link if you post this on your blog or tweet it (+1 to the drawing). And if you will add these to your public or school library’s collection, let me know that, too (+1). And hey, for extra fun, tell me your best/worst first day of school story (+1). Contest ends September 21.
(Er, that’s more or less how giveaways work, yes? Whee! Let’s see how this goes.)

I love audio books.
My worst first day was my freshman day at college. They lost my paperwork and I just remember crying. It was terrible!

Wow, Grace, is that your public library that doesn’t accept YA? Or your school (assuming it serves teens)? Either way, that’s pretty appalling. The goal of a library should be to serve everyone, not just the youngest patrons. Fooey on them, I say!
Thanks to all of you for your first day of school stories!
First day of school disaster:
First day of kindergarten, and we were drawing. My favorite show was BETWEEN THE LIONS, the one with them in the library, and I had just seen the previous night the one where the dad crumples up his paper when he made a mistake.
I crumpled my drawing up and threw it behind me. My teacher got really mad at me for wasting paper and made me go and get my piece, smooth it out, and not use another one.
I still remember the shame of the entire class looking at me :(

I would, but my library doesn’t accept YA, which SUCKS. They’re like, “it might be inappropriate for the younger ones!” but I think that there are plenty of clean, educational reads. I want it because I want to be able to read while doing homework and I got my first audiobook. I also have really bad trouble falling asleep, and these help me fall asleep and relax. Thank you for this giveaway! :)

I’d add them to my library collection! Are you giving these to two separate people, or both to one person? (As if it matters. But I’d prefer the Zevin.)
I don’t remember many first days of school, but there was the first day of my first college lit class, where the professor called my name off the roster and then said “Brandy. ‘Brandy, you’re a fine girl; what a good wife you’ll be.’ I hate that song.” and then went right on to the next name on the sheet with no further comment.
My best first day of school was in kindergarden. My beloved dad took me into the classroom. We met my teacher, and I sat at my desk all set to learn and have fun. Other kids were crying sad to see their parent leave. Not me. I had been to nursery school. I was well-adjusted for a 5-year-old. Looking back, I made it easy for my dad. It’s also the only first day of school I remember.
Yes, these will be added to my library collection. I have been collecting audio books and books for years.
I tweeted this giveaway.

These audio books looks so good! I love listening to audiobooks while I garden and walk. On a long trip I will listen while in the car. Thanks for the giveaway.
