Conversation between two of my 7th graders today:
S: I just finished a great book! The Incredible Adventure of…something or other. (I didn’t quite catch the name.)
A: Is it about mice?
S: No, it’s about a rabbit. Why’d you say that?
A: Because those adventure books always have rodents.
The kid’s not wrong!

You missed one.

I’m sure I missed plenty of good ones!
(Mousing over that link shows “Mrs. Frisby Rats Aladdin Fantasy,” by the way. Turns out Aladdin Fantasy is the publisher, but my first thought was that that would be an awesome book. Little mice in turbans!)

I just like that she’s noticed the trend. Smart kid.

Arun –
Exactly! Maybe children’s authors need to start writing a lot more books about adventurous giraffes and warthogs.
