Most of the activism I try to get people involved in seems like pushing against an unmoveable tide - the sort of thing where even if we, say, actually build Cape Wind, it’s only a drop in the bucket of the problem of renewable energy. An important drop, but still.
This, though, is just stupid, and it’s completely preventable. The short summary: large internet provider corporations like AT&T and Verizon are lobbying hard for the government to allow them to charge websites for the privilege of actually functioning on people’s computers. Don’t pay service providers enough? Well, your site just won’t load as fast as the big companies’ sites.
Of course, our government would never bow down to the bullshit requests of big corporations! …Oh, wait. Crap. If you don’t want to look back years down the line and remember the glory days of the internet, the Great Equalizer, please go sign MoveOn’s petition. And maybe write a letter to the editor or something.
